Larry Fishel—Weight Control

I started the [weight-control] diet the second day of October and finished December 24, 2009 (12 weeks).  This diet took me through Thanksgiving on which I gained 0.2 lbs, and then 4 lbs during the Christmas holidays.  Today is Tuesday, December 29, 2009, five days since the completion of the formal diet, a total of 89 days and I have lost 49.8 lbs or 0.56 lbs per day.  I am now only 0.2 lbs above my lowest weight, which occurred before Christmas.  Since I have a new set point I am confident I will continue to lose without even trying to, but I am planning to start the diet again the first of the year.  My goal is to loose 100 lbs, so, I was planning on having to do the diet three times in order to accomplish this.  However, since I did so well this first time, I believe I will only need to take it one more time.

During the first two days of the diet I was to eat as much fat and sugar as I could possibly eat to build up the fat cells as much as possible.  I was so excited, however I got a little sick because I got carried away.  I loaded up on pancakes and syrup and at one point I had two malts at one time.  I gained 2.8 lbs during these two days, which put me at 299.8 lbs.  I am so thankful I didn't get to 300 lbs!!!  It only took a few days and those pounds came off.  I have a low blood sugar problem in which the insulin that my body produces stays in the blood vessels and doesn't get to the cells to break down the fat and normally I become very sick if I don't eat on time and not enough, etc.  However, I have not had a problem at all since I started on this diet.  Only one time did I feel that I had to eat an apple between meals and that was probably because I began to panic like I usually did when this occurred in the past.

I stopped taking my blood pressure medication per Dr Michael Malmgren's instructions and at this point have not started up again.  My blood pressure has been excellent.  It is about 130/70.  I cannot ask for more than that.  I have always had elevated BP so, this is exciting.  I have a terrible family history of heart trouble, thus the reason I want to get my weight down.  Also, both knees need to be replaced and I want to prolong that for a long, long time, if not indefinitely.  I have tried over the years to get my weight down without success, until now.  Years ago I did loose a lot of weight, more than I wanted to, but did so to the detriment of my health.  this time I am following Dr. Michael Malmgren's instructions to the letter and I am doing well.

Along with stopping my blood pressure medication I had to stop taking thyroid as well.  I was tired most of the time until, during the maintenance stage, Dr. Malmgren instructed me to start taking the thyroid again.  My energy level is slowly returning.

I am very pleased with my overall health on this diet.  I have not only lost pounds but also inches.  I am now in to smaller pants and belt and I can button my sport coat, as well as get in to my topcoat.  I still have a roll around my midsection, and I could stop here since I feel very good, but I might as well continue until I get to 200 lbs and then maintain that weight.  I should feel even better than I do now.  I plan on getting back on my rowing machine and build up the muscles around my knees and then back on my bike, etc.

I wouldn't go anywhere else for chiropractic treatment.  Dr. Malmgren takes the initiative to analyze the problem in ways the many other chiropractors I have been to would never do.  If one method of attack is not working, he is willing to look at alternative approaches until he finds one that works.  In addition, his skills go beyond chiropractic for a 'bigger picture' of ones health.
